Hunter: Jason Traverse
Location: Halls Creek Central Missouri Land

Jason Traverse traveled from Virginia with his wife Stephanie for the second year in a row. Jason harvested a 163 inch buck last year and was looking to harvest another giant whitetail. Stephanie accompanied Jason on his first evening in the blind. They were hunting a small "tucked away" clover food plot where many does were feeding in the evenings. Jason saw a nice 145 inch 10 pointer chasing does all over the field early in the evening. He also saw some smaller bucks at the edge of the field chasing some does. While Jason watched these smaller bucks thru his binoculars, Stephanie spotted a monster buck easing down a logging road; heading directly to them. Once Jason saw the buck there was not doubt he was going to try to harvest him. The buck entered the field and stood behind some tall switch grass for the first few minutes. Then he presented a shot and Jason did not waste anytime. He harvested the buck on his first evening in the stand, at about 5:00 PM.

Jason had another tag and was hoping to harvest another giant whitetail while at Halls Creek. On the first morning of the his second hunt, Jason hunted a bedding area edge, where a large cedar thicket opens up into mature hardwoods. The guides had seen several scrapes and large rubs in the area a few days before. Mark Burgess, one of the owners of Halls Creek had informed Jason of a large triple main beam buck that was last seen around that bedding area. As luck would have it, the triple main beam buck showed up following a doe along the hard wood ridge at about 7:00 AM. The wind shifted and the buck started to run but Jason was quick on the trigger and was able to harvest this very "unique" 5 year old buck. This type of buck has been harvested at Halls Creek in the past in 2004 we harvested a buck that looks very similar. That deer can be seen on the video "Giant Whitetails" 2 from Wildgame innovations.

Don Wilson visited us for the second year in a row to hunt whitetails at Halls Creek. Last year Don harvested a large massed 145 inch deer on the second morning of his hunt. Don passed several nice bucks on his first evening. Don loved the symmetry on this nice 8 pointer he harvested on the second evening. Don said, "Halls Creek does it again! I'll see you next year!

Jason had hunted with Halls Creek Outfitters before and new that there was an excellent chance he would get an opportunity at a huge whitetail. Mark Burgess, one of the founders of Halls Creek, had informed Jason on the phone that he had been seeing a huge deer that he thought would score close to 180 inches! On the first evening on his hunt Jason was perched over a freshly planted fall food plot. It was early around 4:00 PM when this giant was seen in the woods fighting with another large buck. Soon they entered the field and Jason did not waste anytime harvesting this giant.

Jason had shared his past photos with Dave and he wanted to experience some of the spectacular whitetail hunting Halls Creek has to offer. On Dave's first evening he sat on a clover food plot and saw a few does and small bucks. The next morning, Dave and his guide Randy were stationed on a long narrow food plot and saw several bucks chasing does all morning. Dave spotted this deer "sparing" with another big buck in the woods. Finally the brut gave Dave the opportunity to harvest him. Dave's buck had 15 scoreable points.
